Ashridge win multimillion highways contract with Oxfordshire County Council

MULTIMILLION HIGHWAYS CONTRACT WITH OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

Ashridge has recently commenced work on a new highways contract at Headington for Oxfordshire County Council.

Oxfordshire County Council

The contract is for the London Road, one of the busiest routes into Oxford and the roadworks cover from Osler Road to Wharton Road. The aim of the scheme is to improve journey times and reliability for local people traveling by bus as well as to make the Headington shopping area a better place to shop and help ensure it s future as a vibrant local centre.

The contract comprises of the construction of better pavements, installation of new, high-quality street furniture, construction of two new pedestrian crossings, an inbound bus gate to reduce delays for passengers and gently raised junctions and side road crossings. The carriageway will also be resurfaced and existing traffic signals upgraded.

Works commenced on 26 April 2010 and are scheduled to last until the end of November with businesses open as usual throughout this period.

Work is being done in small staged phases and Ashridge is liaising closely with Oxford County Council as well as local shopkeepers and residents to ensure the least disruption. Following completion of the kerbing and paving works the carriageway surface works will commence and these will be undertaken in a series of nighttime road closures (maintaining through buses and coaches).
